My experience with riding many motorcycles has taught me one thing: there’s a make and model to suit every desire. And just because someone else’s choice doesn’t align with your own interests, there’s little point in displaying intolerance by raining on their parade. In other words, ride and let ride. However, if I wanted to change the mind of a Harley naysayer by presenting them with one model from their air-cooled stable, it would be a Sportster, specifically the XR1200. The XR model Harleys are not what immediately comes to mind when you think of a Harley Davidson, and for this reason it was quite a polarising machine.
Arguably the sportiest Harley Davidson tracker ever made, the XR 1200 was made to handle, and has the capacity to do so. Clearance is impressive - it isn't easy to scrape anything on this motorcycle. However, it doesn't just tip into a corner, there is a specific riding style you will adapt when riding this machine. With the right amount of counter-steering and shifting your weight on the pegs and seat, she will corner sweetly.
The sound and presence of the XR 1200 is a great selling feature. More of a muscle bike than a sports bike, more grunt and engine sound backed with outright performance.
Another appealing factor about this machine is that there are limited numbers available, since Harley stopped production. They're actually a rare find when looking for the X model which boasts the all black engine option. This one to be clear is not an X model but has an X tank on it. It is a standard XR1200
