Following their success at the 1972 Imola 200 when Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari had achieved a 1, 2 with machines developed from the recently introduced 750cc GT bevel drive vee-twin, Ducati were quick to announce a more obviously sporting model in the form of the 750cc Sport, this was followed in 1974 by the Desmo equipped production racer, the 750cc Super Sport. The new model was endowed with 40mm Dell'Orto carburettors and a 10:1 compression ratio combined with cycle parts that reflected its track aspirations. Built in limited numbers it is now one of the most highly sought after Ducati motorcycles. 1977 witnessed the introduction of the 900SS in response to the improved performance of rival machines.
Ducati's original 900 super sport was one of the most single-minded sporting superbikes that ever devoured an innocent public road. it was essentially a street-legal production racer: fast, raw and uncompromising. it handled and slopped brilliantly, looked and sounded gorgeous and was a match for anything on road or track.
The Ducati 900SS was built to be ridden daily, a sporty all-rounder that was as comfortable commuting as it was lighting up a tight canyon road.
This Ducati is in exceptional condition and is restored to a period correct state. Still boasting the original owners manuel / books for this bike which are extremely hard to come by. This is a matching numbers Ducati and comes with a 900SS performance carburettor kit if you wish to get a few more horses in between your legs..
