2024 Fantic Caballero Scrambler 700

ENGINE

The crown jewel here is the Caballero’s 689cc, twin-cylinder borrowed from Yamaha and already employed on the XSR700 and MT-07. It produces 75 horsepower and 50 pound-feet of torque, all of which is transmitted via a six-speed gearbox. Couple this with the motorcycle’s 396-pound curb weight, and it ekes out a better power-to-weight ratio than the XSR700.

CHASSIS

Elsewhere, the suspension setup comprises beefy 45mm forks and a monoshock - both sourced by fellow Italian company Marzocchi - while the brakes feature radial Brembo calipers clamped on 19/17-inch spoke wheels. All this is slapped onto a CrMo backbone chassis to round off the underpinnings which, by the way, are more premium than the other Yamaha 700cc nakeds. It’s also worth noting the wheels are shod with off-road specific tires - a crucial aspect for off-roading stints.

AESTHETICS

One look at the Fantic Caballero 700, and it seems well-suited for scrambling. The tall stance, spoke wheels, flat seat, and most importantly, the upswept dual exhaust all make it a handsome motorcycle while the old-school side panels and headlight cowl infuse some retro flavor to the package. However, when you get aboard the ribbed saddle, the Caballero is anything but retro as its cockpit includes a 3.5-inch TFT instrument cluster replete with Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, you also get ride modes, traction control, and cornering ABS, which are first-ever inclusions on a Fantic motorcycle.
